Bridging the Valley of Death

About BioTransfer

BioTransfer is a program designed to close the gap between biomedical research and industry adoption in Portugal and Europe.

Too many promising biomedical innovations stall before reaching the market, unable to cross the "valley of death" - not for lack of science, but because of low maturity levels, misaligned priorities with industry, and limited access to the right decision-makers.

BioTransfer proposes to address this identified gap and is here to give European biomedical innovation a precision-guided path to technology transfer.

BioTransfer Maturity Assessment

BioTransfer is attending BioMeet 2026 (23–24 September, Taguspark Conference Centre in Oeiras).

🎤 Flash Presentation - Presentation of the Maturity Assessment Concept, the entry point to the BioTransfer ecosystem (Tuesday, 23 September, 10:30–11:10).

📍 On-site Stands - We will be present at CoLAB AccelBio and CoLAB TRIALS booths throughout the event. Here you will be able to test your Biotech innovation with our Maturity Assessment Concept and assess its maturity level across five dimensions.

👥 1:1 Meetings - You can also schedule a 1-to-1 meeting with our team through the event's partnering system.

BioTransfer Goals

By filling in the BioTransfer (1.) Maturity Assessment Concept, your biomedical innovation will integrate a dynamic (2.) Progress Tracking Directory. Rather than remaining as static entries, projects will be able to update their progress status over time and have a better understanding of their progression dynamics. The ones ready to transition to the industry will be highlighted as being members of our BioInnovation Golden Basket.

A CRM-powered (3.) Streamline Licensing Operating System of target companies and experts will be implemented to showcase the portfolio of technologies and promote the interaction between stakeholders. We will provide training modules (4.) "BioInnovation STEP UP!"  - a maturation program to bridge the main gaps identified and help innovations mature quicker facilitating their transition to the industry.

We want to spread the BioTransfer message by using social media - (5.) BioTransfer's Website & (6.) LinkedIn page), by launching the (7.) BioInnovators Podcast - a series of talks where the biomedical community shares their experience on overcoming bioinnovation hurdles, and by attending (8.) Partnering Events.

Finally, the top-ranked transition-ready technologies "Front-Runners" will have a chance to accompany us and go on a (9.) BioMeetings Tour - attend BioInnovation Meetings (such as BioEurope) to connect start-ups directly with industry and foster partnerships, sponsored by BioTransfer.

We aim to reach out to our (10.) Target Audience of innovators, investors and partners to continue the BioTransfer cycle alive.
